The original garden had many different levels and surfaces; there were also old evergreen shrubs of limited interest as well as one or two good specimens well worth preserving.
The agreed design included a large hardwood deck that provided a clean and safe area for the young family. There was access at house floor level and decking covered sleepers retained the high bank on one boundery and allowed for softening planting behind.
A flight of easy steps to an upper play area also provided a popular place for small people to sit.
Planting with, mainly, specimen size plants to provide colour and interest through the year completed this part of the garden.
The pictures show various aspects including the beautiful Arbutus tree that was retained and provided a shady place in the heat of the day.
